I feel you on the social anxiety thing, though twitter has been really good for me in that way - I don't have to interact if I don't have to, but there's usually someone around to commiserate with over podficcing problems, or to squee over fic with, or whatever. If someone else is doing those things, I can jump in (we do a lot of podfic editing sprints, which are a great icebreaker imo), or I can just start talking and often someone chimes in. ... that was a little convoluted, and I may have lost track of my train of thought, but hopefully you can see where I'm going with it :) There's also an effort to start up a podfic editing chatroom, that might be more your style (edited: podklb linked in the comments here http://pod-aware.dreamwidth.org/17255.html?thread=100455#cmt100455)
