Oh ugh I'm taking so many notes this week. I've been a pod_together participant a few years now but I came in from the writer side, and I only just started toeing across that line.

I'm so jealous of all the podficcers who live in the same city and can meet up!

This is really fascinating. I'm only about 15 minutes in but I'm curious what people would say to newbies who feel like they're disconnected from the community? I'm kind of... I guess, socially anxious about putting myself out there and just diving in to conversations and stuff, so I find it hard to connect. I've made some awesome podfic friends through just practical interactions like looking for a beta (and then I totally just latched on, haha) but I feel like there are so many disparate networks now that it's hard to keep up that interaction. People that I meet through challenges and stuff don't always use the same platform as me so it's hard to maintain those relationships.

Is Twitter still the best place to connect? I generally feel like I'm just shouting into the void when I try to use Twitter, but I also totally agree with finnagain that tumblr feels like a weird space for podfic and also for making friends. I'm one of the LJ people that moved to tumblr and kind of... failed at Twitter. But maybe I should try and suck it up and learn to use it :P

So, I listened to this podcast throughout the day at work and it gave me a lot to think about, so while I was driving home, I made a really quick and dirty response (seriously, I haven't even relistened to it and I'm driving so sometimes get distracted by traffic, there's car noises, etc.).

I feel you on the social anxiety thing, though twitter has been really good for me in that way - I don't have to interact if I don't have to, but there's usually someone around to commiserate with over podficcing problems, or to squee over fic with, or whatever. If someone else is doing those things, I can jump in (we do a lot of podfic editing sprints, which are a great icebreaker imo), or I can just start talking and often someone chimes in.
... that was a little convoluted, and I may have lost track of my train of thought, but hopefully you can see where I'm going with it :)
There's also an effort to start up a podfic editing chatroom, that might be more your style (edited: podklb linked in the comments here http://pod-aware.dreamwidth.org/17255.html?thread=100455#cmt100455)

(Has Pod Together been talked about as soft intro to podfic? Because it's a really good way to learn, particularly if one gets lucky with one's partners.)

I don't see why not, though they might not make the round up posts if they're really late?

Tomorrow is podfic fandom and beyond, that totally fits the topic (though, yeah, there's no obligation to stick to the topic at all).

HAVEN OMG. It's hilarious, that's the show I wouldn't stop complaining about as I watched it and had to start watching from late S2 because most of them annoy me too much (but I didn't really have a choice because half my friends got into it in, like, the same week so if I wanted to talk to anyone I had to watch the damn thing) - and then somehow I ended up super-fannish and invested in the thing.

Last episode this show officially reached the point of me declaring that I need vodka to deal with it, damnit. And I... wasn't entirely joking.

The things I presently have up for Haven (with the except for Five Times) are indicative of the sort of works I'm likely to create in this fandom left to my own means. (I'm super-attached to both Edge of Morning and Monsters. God, Monsters.) Which is a lot of digging into the Troubles and the conflicts around them as an analogue to real-world conflicts, and the potentially juicy stuff with the role religion (organized vs. religiosity) play in Haven, and the show's surprisingly dead-on handling of massive fucked-up-ness. (They are all killing me.) And if they take Charlotte where I think they're going to go with that one...

...but anyway that's the stuff I'm likely to create on my own, and what I do in collabs is often different because collabs have their own dynamic. You still have my email, right? Hit me up if you have a thread to start with, now or whenever.

Oh and also I forgot, I totally have a meta about my Pod Together/Lightning experience written up which I was going to post... goodness, I need to go look at what day I planned that for. It's a mash-up of personal history and "podfic-fandom and fandom in general".
