[personal profile] weimar27 posting in [community profile] pod_aware
Sorry for the lateness of this post. To make up for it, day four podfic can be posted until 8 am PDT tomorrow. The day 3 podcast is still being edited.

Now let day four begin!

To post a work for [community profile] pod_aware, please include the following in your notes or somewhere easily visible to help spread awareness about podfic:

Every podficcer has an accent; sometimes that accent matches that of the canon character, sometimes it doesn't. Every accent is special and brings something to the podfic, it represents the podficcer and reminds us just how diverse fandom can be. Come celebrate accents and learn more about them in podfic at [community profile] pod_aware on LJ or DW.

To make it easier for you, you can just copy and paste from here:

THANK YOU FOR THIS POST!
I was super worried that my accent was...overwhelming?

I don't usually have much of an accent, but when recording the kinky podfics I recorded (NEWB), I just could not say some of the words (you know the ones - cock, fuck, etc.) without my inner Goodfella coming out full-force.

So, the last podfic I recorded (still editing), I was really careful about how I pronounced things, going back to re-record when I heard the New Yorker in there. I CAN NOT SAY AWKWARD. IT'S VERY AWW-QUWUD FOR ME! lol

Now, after seeing this, I'm seeing that a slight accent isn't a major faux-pas. My censoring it, I'm afraid the podfic may seem more...well, not as natural a reading as it could be. IDK. I'm so new. I'LL NEED YOUR FEEDBACK, LOVELY COMMUNITY OF PODFICCERS THAT ARE SO AWESOME AND SUPPORTIVE!

Thank you! <3

I could hear your accent coming through slightly in different places in your podfic that I just listened to and it made me sad that you were, as you said, censoring yourself.

I think a lot of new readers try to police their accents when the community itself probably wouldn't even care. And even if they did? Who cares! That's your voice and you should love it:)

Oh, I let it have roam free in those three - especially that last one (no small pleasure). I actually thought it was too much in that so... It's in the one I'm currently editing that I tried to censor it out.

If I would have read this before, I'd a left it alone. ^_~

And the next fic I do, I'm totally gonna play it up! It's set in NY during the prohibition era so the accent will be a good thing.

BUT - I personally LOVE listening to podfic in different accents! It makes me super happy to know that there are people all around the world who share the same interests & passions. <3

Mostly I love listening to different accents, though I have run into a very few over the years that I could not understand well enough to follow the story, which makes me sad. :-(

The only thing I don't really enjoy involving accents is when the reader tries to simulate one that isn't their own and doesn't do it well, which tends to pull me out of the story. Not, mind you, that I'm trying to discourage readers from attempting accents other than their own; some people do them very well indeed!

I think what it boils down to is that I like to listen to people reading/telling me stories, and a reader's accent is much more likely to enhance my enjoyment of a podfic than not.
