Podfic Awareness Week

The March Meta Matters Challenge Is Returning...

...for year 3! The marchmetamatterschallenge is focused on not just new meta, but making sure older meta gets a chance to be read and remain a part of fandom history.

While new meta is also encouraged, the priority for Meta Matters is to make sure meta doesn't vanish with sites or personal accounts when those get closed or moved. That's also why the challenge will be using the Archive of Our Own as a destination site and collection host.

This will be a month-long event kicking off on March 1 with bi-weekly check-ins. March Meta Matters will close on April 1.

It's time to pick out your costume, start carving those pumpkins, and decide on goodies to share because it's almost time for the 2021 session of Buffyverse Top 5!

That means recs for all fanworks in the Whedon fandoms. Our kickoff is on October 22, 2019 at midnight UTC (click here for your time zone). The session will run across Halloween in all timezones and close on November 2 midnight UTC.

For anyone who has questions about how things will go, please comment here or you can check out information on what to post during a Buffyverse Top 5 session.

Thank you to everyone who made suggestions about what the topics for this year should be; I couldn't have done this without all the great input I got. Because pod_aware is for anyone interested in podfic, I've merged some of the ideas together, or put them under a broader heading so that non-podficcers can participate as well.

Without further ado, here are the topics:

November 10: The History of Podfic
This can be the overall history of podfic or your personal history with it.

November 11: Podfic and Other (Fan)Works
It's pretty rare for a podfic to not be related to another fanwork, the most obvious being the fic it's a recording of, but it also other works like cover art, fanart, or fanmixes. What is podfic's relation to other fan audio works? Or non-fannish works like audiobooks?

November 12: Podfic Community and Beyond
As the popularity of podfic grows, podficcers start spreading out and popping up all over the place. Where are those interested in podfic hanging out these days and how are they supporting each other?

November 13: Personal Preferences
Everyone has personal preferences when listening to or creating podfics: length, music, story telling style, rating, etc. This is a chance to talk about some of your favourites, or about various stylistic choices.

November 14: Podfic in the Broader Fannish Context
Why does podfic take off in some fandoms more than others? How can we encourage it in fandoms? Get podfic included in more fannish challenges/exchanges? How is podfic perceived by those who aren't as familiar with it?

Podfic is this awesome fanwork where dedicated fans create audiobooks of fanfic.

The podfic community is still small enough that many in fandom have never heard of this fun fanwork. Those of us that love podfic love it a lot and sometimes we don't take the time to talk about that enough. So pod_aware is here to help with both of those things!

How are we going to do this? For one week (November 10-14) every day there will be a topic about podfic, which participants can talk about and/or spread the word about. For each day's topic, we're going to have a little blurb explaining a bit about the daily topic with a link back to the conversation happening.

Those of us who already know about podfic can give our thoughts on the subject, creating a resource for those who don't know about podfic and want to learn more.

And we're going to spread awareness by making stuff! What kind of stuff? Anything! It doesn't have to be related to podfic at all! You can write fic, you can give recs, you can bake cookies, or just write a post, whatever! All we ask is that you include that little blurb wherever you post your fanwork (and we encourage you to post it anywhere/everywhere). That way fans that have never heard of podfic before can find out what it's all about!

We're still sharing ideas for what the official themes of the year will be. Please check out those posts to chime in (DW | LJ | tumblr).

Pod Aware 2014

November is just around the corner, so you know what that means! Pod Aware! This year Pod Aware will run from November 10-14*, but I need your help to make this happen!

First thing we need, are some suggestions for the daily topics.
Our first round's topics were: Podfic 101/Why We Podfic, Blanket Permission, Author/Podficcer Relationships, Accents, Feedback, Repodding, and Encouraging Podfic.
The topics of our second round were: How We Podfic, Podfic Fandom, Recs, Acting, Special Effects, Collaboration, and Feedback.

As you can see some of those topics have been repeated, and we can repeat them again this year if people want or we can introduce new topics, but I need to know what people are interested in.

Secondly, I need volunteers. I'll need help creating the round up posts, which link to all the entries from the previous day. I'll also need help creating the podcasts that get posted each day.

Please comment to volunteer or share ideas.

*I initially listed the 13-17 as the days, but that's because I fail and was looking at the month of October instead of November.
