Re: How to get started?

Hi! I'm happy you're thinking of trying podficcing - it's tons of fun and there's a very supportive community out there for it that's been growing a lot over the past few years. You asked a bunch of great questions in your comment, and I'll try to go through them in order:

Regarding help with getting started and technical support, I found it really helpful to check out fan-made tutorials like this one when I was first learning how to make my own podfics. There's an index of a bunch of other tutorials here, as well. Another resource that's very useful is the Podfic Tips community on LJ, which is a great place to go ask questions and look for help/betas/etc.

I'm afraid I don't know anyone who lives in the Atlanta area personally, sorry. :(

But I can tell you a little bit about where people hang out these days! There's definitely been a big shift away from LJ & DW, but some communities are still quite active. Amplificathon is probably the biggest general comm for posting podfic, both on DW and LJ. Larger fandoms (especially ones with an active podficcing community like Sherlock) may have fandom-specific podfic comms as well. It's also become more common for podficcers to have their works posted on AO3 (here's my page, to give an example). The Podfic Meta comm is where a lot of broader discussion happens, and has some great insightful posts. For general, casual person-to-person interaction, though, I'd have to say a lot of it happens these days on Twitter! There's a podfic twitter here, run by Paraka, which can give you a general idea about that.

The 'Podfic Fandom' posts from Day 2 of the Pod Aware fest this year would be a great resource to check out for other opinions on where fandom has migrated, since I'm only providing one person's perspective. ^^ Best of luck, if you have any other questions I'd be happy to try to answer them!
