I'm listening to this and KLB is mentioning tons of her work that I'm now interested to listen to (omg that Good Wife podfic!!) but the links are not in this post, sadness. :D (No worries, I'll find them, but I wanted to point it out).

Also, yes, yes, speaking of special effects is sometimes fraught because of podfic adversaries arguing that audioplays are somehow more legit as works. I think one of the reasons I resisted so long to adding music (and effects) to my own podfic was unconsciously influenced by this problem, bc I was perhaps reluctant to "abandon" the "side" that I wanted to support, and the idea I want to uphold, that one-person-reading-a-story IS A LEGIT FANWORK AND FUCK YOU IF YOU DON'T THINK SO. Ahem. But I've been having fun w/ music and effects a few times now, and I don't regret playing with them. I think it's always just going to depend on my mood / energy levels / the story and my "artistic vision" of the podfic. :D
