Pod Aware 2014

November is just around the corner, so you know what that means! Pod Aware! This year Pod Aware will run from November 10-14*, but I need your help to make this happen!

First thing we need, are some suggestions for the daily topics.
Our first round's topics were: Podfic 101/Why We Podfic, Blanket Permission, Author/Podficcer Relationships, Accents, Feedback, Repodding, and Encouraging Podfic.
The topics of our second round were: How We Podfic, Podfic Fandom, Recs, Acting, Special Effects, Collaboration, and Feedback.

As you can see some of those topics have been repeated, and we can repeat them again this year if people want or we can introduce new topics, but I need to know what people are interested in.

Secondly, I need volunteers. I'll need help creating the round up posts, which link to all the entries from the previous day. I'll also need help creating the podcasts that get posted each day.

Please comment to volunteer or share ideas.

*I initially listed the 13-17 as the days, but that's because I fail and was looking at the month of October instead of November.

Yay! So good to hear Pod Aware is coming back! \0/\0/\0/

I'd love to see a discussion of podfic in a broader fandom context. How do we react when a situation like EBB happens again? What can we do to make AO3 a better fit for podfic? In the past, how have we effectively advertised podfic in other parts of fandom? Of course, this could easily lead to allllll the wank, so maybe it's not a good idea.

I know there are a few podficcers that are going professional now, as well. Could we hear from their experiences on the differences between podfic and professional audiobooks? Maybe get someone from LibraVox to guest-podcast or something. I know there are also podfic-like communities out there on YouTube, smaller archives -- could we reach out to them and try to do an event that brings a bunch of different online fannish audio communities together?

Keep me in mind if you need volunteers!

I'd love to see a discussion about how podfic fits into the wider fandom context.

I'm also willing to help out with anything that you need help with, paraka (podcasts included, assuming timing works out for me).

Can we do a day on podfic fandom's history? Because that would be amazing and would give a lot of great citations to beef up the relevant Fanlore articles :D

(I'd be happy to help co-ordinate that day!)

Ok, my brain is a bit blank right now, but I volunteer. For something. I will try and think of things!

some ideas:

cover art
what makes a story easier or harder to podfic
length preferences for listening and for recording
expressing emotion in podfic - when, how, what do we like to hear?
differences and similarities between podfic and other audio fanworks. also nonfans recording fanfic??
history of podfic - stylistic changes over time?
diversity of podficcers' opinions on podfic meta
prolific podficcers - how do they do it??? :p

also: podfic-only and podfic-included challenges

the non fans recording fanfic would be interesting. I just had an aspiring voice actor offer to record parts for a multi voice podfic I am planning on doing.

I'd like to (tentatively) sign up for helping up with the round up posts. Right now I don't know how my job situation will be in November --- I'll let you know as soon as I can if my schedule turns out to be too full.

I know there has been the topic of special effects in a previous round, where music was also mentioned. But as so many podfics now contain music, I'd love to hear more discussions about it. (how do people choose it, length, is the editing process different, yes/no for music in podfics in general....)
