Yes, that's the YT series I meant. <3 Also I see, rereading it, that I had a biased memory of the podmeta statement of purpose. Sorry for being so adamant! possibly my memory is informed with private discussion going on at the time around it going up. *sheepish*

It's all good. The mod could have talked through her motivations more somewhere I didn't see, but I was a little surprised by your comment because, yeah, that's not what I had remembered? Also, most of the traffic/conversation I've seen on podficmeta has been from podficcers.

As someone who has been in fandom since 1998 but only really been in "podfic fandom" as such for the last year or so, it was awesome to get this potted history which I'm pretty sure I've never seen all in one place before. It was also interesting to consider how my personal fandom biography intersects with the development of podfic in specific fandoms; if I'd been into SGA, or SPN earlier than I did get into it, I imagine I would probably have become involved with podfic sooner too. I didn't start listening until Inception came along and I didn't start recording until much later than that.

I'm fascinated by all the work that went into making podfic a, I guess, 'legitimate' fanwork and that is still an ongoing process. I would love to see e.g. AO3 create specific templates for podfic and fanart as well as fic. Some of those links I've seen before but they're still kind of mind-boggling ("tell me what the point of podfic is" is a question that I find it hard to imagine someone asking about fic or fanart or meta).

Listening now, and wow, Jinjur, I never knew that about the other (unnamed) fan wanting to curate only the 'good' podfic.

And I must have come in right after the second amplificathon, i think? My first one was I think in 2009 or 2008. And I was so scared to ask for my podfic to be archived because I wasn't sure if i was asking right.

My brain doesn't do well with podfic challenges but its fun to hear people's experiences

Wow! It's so interesting to hear people's histories in fandom. When I was working on this podcast it made me want to organize some sort of oral history where anyone interested could just record their personal history and editing it into some sort of ~documentary or something, idek. Just a sort of, well, oral history.

Love the discussion of the inclusivity of the archive. That's pretty much my origin story right there: Was interested in recording fic and went looking for a community, but the only one I found was podslash, whose FAQ came off as rather grudging in their allowance of non-slash works, so it didn't seem like there'd be an audience for my gen-centric, hurt/comfort-lovin' efforts if I tried. Skip ahead a year or two, I go looking again, and now there's an archive and amplificathon explicitly talking about expanding the scope of podfic in ALL areas of fanfiction. I happened to be wild about a fandom that didn't have any entries in the archive at that time, and that gave me the boost to see it as a hole that I could fill, rather than proof of a lack of audience. :)

Wow, this was sooo interesting!

And yes, the Audiofic Archive archivists do such a wondrous job, I can't thank anyone enough!

Also, yes, there's so much stuff on AO3 nowadays, keeping up with the amplificathon comm on DW or LJ is not enough anymore... What I'd really need is a "podfic" tag rss feed so that I could handily check it out from my DW friend-list. ;)

I just discovered this, but wow, I can't believe so many of you guys actually listened to my SGA podfic experiments! Totally interesting discussion on the history of the archive, and so cool to hear how other people found this medium. :)
