Day 2: Podfic and Other (Fan)Works
Welcome to day 2 of
pod_aware!
To post a work for
pod_aware, please include the following in your post, somewhere easily visible to help spread awareness about podfic:
Podfic isn't made in a vacuum and can be heavily influenced by or can rely upon other fanworks to exist. From the fic a podfic is of, to the coverart, to collaborations, podficcers often work with other fans to create their art. Check out pod_aware on DW, LJ or Tumblr to learn more.

I for one do lots of podcovers and, yes, I totally noticed that when I work on them after listening to the podfic in question it feels like a more complete experience to me, while if the podficcer says something like "Hey, I'm going to podfic this thing, will someone do me a cover?" of course I'm super excited but if I didn't have a chance to hear their work first and I have to base my cover only on the fic it feels a bit like a more detached project to me and I worry that the resulting cover may be less than perfectly fitting. Not to mention the fact that if there's going to be a podficced version of that fic it's a bit "unfair" to have to physically read the fic when shortly after I could have instead enjoyed that same fic in podfic form. :D - LOL, I'm so spoiled! :D
Though of course I couldn't well ask the podficcer to wait a week for me to do the cover after they finished the podfic. O_o Not to mention the fact that I'd be too excited and impatient to get on with the work to wait anyway.
So, yeah, something to think about...

I loved your discussion of cover art. I used to make a lot of graphics when I was first in fandom, so making cover art when I started podficcing felt really natural to me (not that I'm saying that my cover art is amazing or anything, but it's usually easy for me to throw something together that I think looks decent). I once did get a compliment on my cover art and it actually made my day (it was for this cover that I made with a photograph of my own, so that one is kind of special to me on a different level). I think I'm going to make an effort to comment on art as well as podfics going forward, you've inspired me :D

I would love to do meatspace collabs - seriously, if there are any other podficcers who happen to be in Edinburgh or even other parts of the UK, it would be awesome to meet up with you.
