Podfic is this awesome fanwork where dedicated fans create audiobooks of fanfic.
The podfic community is still small enough that many in fandom have never heard of this fun fanwork. Those of us that love podfic love it a lot and sometimes we don't take the time to talk about that enough. So
pod_aware is here to help with both of those things!
How are we going to do this? For one week (November 12-18) every day there will be a topic about podfic, which participants can talk about and/or spread the word about. For each day's topic, we're going to have a little blurb explaining a but about the daily topic with a link back to the conversation happening.
Those of us who already know about podfic can give our thoughts on the subject, creating a resource for those who don't know about podfic and want to learn more.
And we're going to spread awareness by making stuff! What kind of stuff? Anything! It doesn't have to be related to podfic at all! You can write fic, you can give recs, you bake cookies, or just write a post, whatever! All we ask is that you include that little blurb wherever you post your fanwork (and we encourage you to post it anywhere/everywhere). That way fans that have never heard of podfic before can find out what it's all about!
To see the daily themes this year will be:
November 12: How We Podfic (Round Up) - creation and consumption
November 13: Podfic Fandom (Round Up) - where to go to get started, places to hang out, atmosphere, etc.
November 14: Recs (Round Up) - share some, talk about your favourite rec'ers or amplirecathon, etc.
November 15: Acting (Round Up) - how podficcers approach the text, how various styles are received, etc.
November 16: Special Effects (Round Up) - music, sounds effects, voices, etc. How to add them as a creator, how you enjoy them as a listener
November 17: Collaboration (Round Up) - between multiple podficcers, podficcers and the author, beta, coverartists, etc.
November 18: Feedback (Round Up) - back by popular demand!

Last year there were official podcasts for each day of
pod_aware which I organized. This year I'd like to open the floor to other podficcers. If you would like to make the official podcast for any of the days, please leave a comment here. If you have a day and a group already formed, please say so in you comment. If you're willing to be paired with others, simply list which topics you're interested in, in order of preference.
Please note, everyone is more than welcome to make unofficial podcasts, the official ones just have to be handed in early and go through me. :)
There are no official sign ups for
pod_aware but if you'd like to brainstorm ideas/projects, please feel free to do so in the comments.

Date: 2012-10-10 12:31 am (UTC)Also have *so* many thoughts about collab, but I can see that's a popular one, and I can always do a side podcast on that day if there's not room on the main one.
With special effects, it's less that I have deep thoughts and more that I have lots of interesting examples of problem-solving with special effects. For me, the topic would really be something about problem-solving things that seem tricky to translate from fic into podfic, using special effects :D
