[personal profile] paraka posting in [community profile] pod_aware
November is still a ways off, but I wanted to start thinking about what the daily themes for this year's [community profile] pod_aware could be.

Last year's topics were Podfic 101/Why We Podfic, Blanket Permission, Author/Podficcer Relationships, Accents, Feedback, Repodding, and Encouraging Podfic. While I'm not opposed to repeating topics again this year I'm also hoping for some change ups.

So, what kinds of topics would you like to see this year?

I like all these ideas!

Hm, maybe: long vs. short podfic? Which do different listeners prefer in different contexts? How (besides the obvious commitment of more time) is the recording/editing process different for hours-long vs. a few minutes-long podfics?

- Collaboration! You could leave it open so that people could talk about podficcer-podficcer collaboration or podficcer-author collaboration, or whatever they want.

- I don't know if this is too "internal" and only interesting to podficcers and not to listeners, but hearing about people's different editing strategies is always interesting.

maybe this year we could try a "how we podfic" :)

Yes! That way it's broader, too.

I would LOVE "how we podfic" -- getting to hear about how people edit, and about how folks do the whole process from start to finish -- from when you first read something and realize you're going into pod farr, to when you upload it and release it into the wild...

Heeee, 'pod farr'. I was just thinking the other day about how to describe that feeling I get when I know a story is one I'll want to podfic, and I was having a tough time pinning it down. That describes it aptly. ^^

Right? It's such an intense feeling of awesome. I had been trying to think of a word for it, and then I saw vidders using vid farr, and just, YES. Except for us, it's even better, because we only have to change one little letter! \o/

I was just thinking today that, maybe as a twin to this, it'd be interesting to hear from podfic listeners how they typically go about finding and listening to podfic - I find it so interesting that especially with mobile fandom there are so many different ways to access and listen to it in every imaginable situation.

Oh, I was just thinking that it would be interesting to hear what draws someone to podfic a story, so I think that fits with your new theme. Also, I'd love to hear about what things listeners and podficc'ers love about podfic.

I'm way interested in seeing/reading/hearing about how people edit.

I was trying to think of anything else to add, and I actually think my NUDITY!!! suggestion on Twitter would be completely covered under the "how we podfic" theme. :)

I'm so excited for November! \o/ I loved all the awesome meta and podcasts from last year... so magical.

Late reply is quite late, but: Betas and betaing! Mostly so Lunchee and I can peer into how this process works for other people, because we have our own sort of way of doing things and are deeply curious if other people use similar or completely different beta processes.

Oooh, yes! That would be interesting - I haven't ever tried to get a beta for my podfics, but the beta-podficcer relationship is something I've been curious to learn more about, since it seems like they can provide a huuuuge amount of help.

I don't really have any topic suggestions, but I just wanted to say yay Pod Aware! I was totally out of the loop last year when it was going on, so I'm excited to maybe participate this year, depending on whether I can actually make extemporaneous recordings without descending into a babbling mess or not. >>;
