Pod Aware 2012

Podfic is this awesome fanwork where dedicated fans create audiobooks of fanfic.

The podfic community is still small enough that many in fandom have never heard of this fun fanwork. Those of us that love podfic love it a lot and sometimes we don't take the time to talk about that enough. So [community profile] pod_aware is here to help with both of those things!

How are we going to do this? For one week (November 12-18) every day there will be a topic about podfic, which participants can talk about and/or spread the word about. For each day's topic, we're going to have a little blurb explaining a but about the daily topic with a link back to the conversation happening.

Those of us who already know about podfic can give our thoughts on the subject, creating a resource for those who don't know about podfic and want to learn more.

And we're going to spread awareness by making stuff! What kind of stuff? Anything! It doesn't have to be related to podfic at all! You can write fic, you can give recs, you bake cookies, or just write a post, whatever! All we ask is that you include that little blurb wherever you post your fanwork (and we encourage you to post it anywhere/everywhere). That way fans that have never heard of podfic before can find out what it's all about!

To see the daily themes this year will be:
November 12: How We Podfic (Round Up) - creation and consumption
November 13: Podfic Fandom (Round Up) - where to go to get started, places to hang out, atmosphere, etc.
November 14: Recs (Round Up) - share some, talk about your favourite rec'ers or amplirecathon, etc.
November 15: Acting (Round Up) - how podficcers approach the text, how various styles are received, etc.
November 16: Special Effects (Round Up) - music, sounds effects, voices, etc. How to add them as a creator, how you enjoy them as a listener
November 17: Collaboration (Round Up) - between multiple podficcers, podficcers and the author, beta, coverartists, etc.
November 18: Feedback (Round Up) - back by popular demand!

If you'd like to help spread the word about this comm, please feel free to use this banner:

Help spread the word on podfic (you don't need to be a podficcer to join in!).

Sign Up Info

For each day of [community profile] pod_aware there's going to be a theme, a subject we will expand on to help spread awareness. Here are the planned topics:

November 7: Podfic 101/Why We Podfic
November 8: Blanket Permission
November 9: Author/Podficcer Relationships
November 10: Accents
November 11: Feedback
November 12: Repodding
November 13: Encouraging Podfic

All you have to do in order to participate is to post something (and remember, the something doesn't have to be podfic related, or related to that day's theme) on one of these days with a little bit of information about podfic (provided) and link to it in on this comm. That's the bare minimum. You don't have to post something every day (but you can and it's totally encouraged!), just post what you're able to/comfortable with on as many days as you want.

You don't have to sign up in advance however here are the reasons why you might want to (and why we want you to):
  • Commitment motivates some people to complete things.

  • Sign ups help your mods gauge people's interest levels and help us give a more even flow fanworks.

  • Writing about what you're thinking of doing lets other people send you encouragement!

If you do choose to sign up now, sign ups are less of a firm commitment than a heads up of your plans. If you end up doing more or less, that's ok too.

Here's the sign up form:
